Is Hortus’ new fall menu and tasting menu worth a second visit?

Hortus is a contemporary Asian restaurant located at 271 5th Avenue. The Michelin-recognized restaurant has launched a new fall menu featuring dishes from newly appointed Executive Chef Youjin Jung, who was recruited to helm the Hortus kitchen by General Manager Suhum Jang.

The new fall menu features appetizers such as Pumpkin Soup and an Autumn Salad composed of roasted delicata squash, radicchio, and Asian pear with parmesan cheese, drizzled with a pine nut dressing and red wine vinegar and adorned with fried parsley. For entrees, you’ll find a special Spicy Braised Short Rib. And to round out the menu, dessert options include Matcha Tiramisu accompanied by vanilla ice cream, and Hortus’ popular Monaka Ice Cream.

During my second visit to Hortus, a restaurant that is easily becoming my favorite, I went out with my partner and we were pleased to see a pre-fixe menu, which offers an appetizer and a main with a cocktail or wine pairing. I obviously went for the cocktail and enjoyed a soju-based Peach Mule and she enjoyed a seasonal Black Plum, another soju cocktail with makgeolli (rice wine).
