SushiDelic: Kawaii and Sushi in Perfect Harmony
SushiDelic is not your traditional Japanese restaurant, nor does it aspire to be. It differentiates itself by its eclectic, immersive Kawaii experience of cuteness mixed with the Japanese Harajuku Street culture of Tokyo. SushiDelic is a joint venture between AUTEC (a leading manufacturer of commercial sushi robots that equip food service businesses globally) and Asobi Systems (an entertainment company that manages Japanese Pop artists). Designed by artist Sebastian Masuda, also known as the “Godfather of Kawaii” and responsible for Kawaii Monster Café in Tokyo, as well as the fashion label 6%DOKIDOKI to create a surreal world of maximalist design.
Upon entering SushiDelic, diners are greeted by a hostess wearing a Japanese-inspired “Monster Girl” Costume. The most prominent design feature is the three sizeable hanging cat sculptures, named Tasty, Sassy, and Cute. They are surrounded by suspended lipstick chandeliers, mirrored ceilings, rainbow flooring, and LED lighting, which are all part of the fun.
Food comes from a sushi conveyor belt that circulates throughout the bar and kitchen, carrying original sculptures by Masuda, such as neon teddy bears, bejeweled red stilettos and pink bow-shaped purses.
